Discovering The Benefits

Of a chiropractic lifestyle

When Dr. Vera was enrolled in a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Alberta, she started having daily headaches and occasional low back pain. Popping anti-inflammatories was the only solution to this frequent nuisance, and tinnitus, or ringing in the ear, became a regular side effect she experienced. She sought the help of a doctor at a medicentre, who said to stop taking the anti-inflammatories but offered no solution for the headaches.

“My mom had just started seeing a chiropractor and made me an appointment. Soon, my headaches disappeared, and I didn’t need anti-inflammatories anymore. I then started working for the chiropractor on the weekends.” When the chiropractor asked Dr. Vera what she planned on doing after university, she replied she was unsure. It made her realize that she wanted to be a chiropractor.

Learning to help others

Dr. Vera first attended the University of Alberta to earn her Bachelor of Science. She then continued to the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC).

Since completing her chiropractic studies, she became interested in dietetics’ role in health and healing. Beyond nutrition, her interest in helping patients beyond the adjustment to alleviate pain has led her down the path of posture and what good posture really means.

She facilitates her learning today by attending seminars and courses in both Canada and the U.S.

EXPERIENCING CAREER AH-HA MOMENTS

Dr. Vera incorporates instrument-based adjusting as part of her overall chiropractic care. She is enthusiastically including Torque Release Technique™ or TRT, Activator, and traditional chiropractic adjustments as part of her treatment of spinal disorders.

“I had an ah-ha moment after attending a TRT seminar. I knew that if I included TRT as part of my treatment, patients would likely feel more relief in between their adjustments. It’s incredible seeing the body respond to this technique!”

TRT technique addresses the primary points of tension in your nervous system in a gentle manner that gives an edge on alleviating pain and facilitating healing.

My second career ah-ha moment was attending a Zone Diet Seminar with Dr. Barry Sears. Within minutes of the first few slide presentations, it was clear to me that unresolved cellular inflammation can lead to increased perceptions of pain and put people on a path of chronic diseases of aging. I now follow and advocate an anti-inflammatory diet for my patients to achieve their goals and expectations with their pain and health improvement.

My third career ah-ha moment came after I listened to a podcast with Esther Gokhale. Again, within minutes of her speaking, I resonated with her explanation of what proper looks like and how it’s attainable for all who wish to live a pain-free life. After the podcast, I purchased the book, DVD, completed the Foundations course and attended a Pop-up class with Esther herself and finally completed teacher training. I am now a certified Gokhale Method instructor and am excited to teach these simple techniques.
